Karen Kumar, M.A.

Therapist

Karen provides assessment and therapy for children, adolescents, and adults, addressing a wide range of concerns including anxiety and mood disorders, health conditions, sleep difficulties, learning needs (such as learning disabilities, ADHD, and ASD), relationship challenges, and life transitions. Her approach is primarily grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with additional integration of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). Karen values a collaborative therapeutic relationship and tailors treatment to each individual’s values, goals, and circumstances.

Karen has experience working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and with complex clinical presentations. She has received assessment and intervention training at St. Michael’s Hospital, The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), and in private practice.

Karen is completing her PhD in Clinical Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University and is a graduate student in Dr. Colleen Carney’s Sleep and Depression Lab where she conducts research focused on sleep disorders and provides clinical treatment including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I).
